MAKING MEALS MATTER
Dining Out For Life raises money for local HIV/AIDS programs.

About 30 Northern Nevada restaurants will give diners the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal out while helping those affected by HIV/AIDS at the area’s third annual Dining Out For Life fundraiser on Thursday, April 25. Participating eateries agree to donate a portion of their sales for that day to Northern Nevada HOPES, the Reno-based dedicated care center that serves about 700 clients who are living with HIV/AIDS. Monies raised will be earmarked for nondiscretionary expenditures, such as the center’s food pantry and support groups, according to Adam Holland, community relations manager for HOPES.
In addition to giving restaurants exposure and encouraging people to eat out, restaurant owners are passionate about the cause.
“On the Richter scale of things that are important, I think it occupies the top,” says Charlie Abowd, owner of Adele’s Restaurant & Lounge in Carson City. “[HIV/AIDS] is an insidious disease and innocent people are being affected by it.”
“I like the way they have it organized,” says Mark Estee, owner and chef at Reno’s Campo restaurant, referring to the fact that educational ambassadors from HOPES will be available at the restaurants.
