Carol Brown

“My latest work is about experiences growing up on a farm and ranch, when every year in the spring I helped Mother plant a garden. Today, I have a small garden and make prints of my garden vegetables.

When I print a series of relief prints, I carve away the negative and print the positive line image on the block. Next, I print the key block with black oil base ink and set aside to dry. After the ink dries, I watercolor each print by hand.

My editions are small and colorful, and each print is an original. I named this series Farm to Market. The Seed Packet prints are part of the series. My Farm to Market prints are inspired by local farmers’ market booths at the popular 3rd and Curry Street Farmers’ Market in Carson City, where you’ll find me selling prints on Saturday mornings. But unlike the produce sold there, prints of my fruits and vegetables have a long shelf life.”

In 2008, Carol Brown participated in a three-week invitational graphic arts workshop, Back to Basics, in Basel, Switzerland. She earned a certificate in printmaking from the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Tex., and a B.S. in clothing and textiles from Oklahoma State University. The Nevada Arts Council awarded Jackpot Grants to Brown in 2003, 2007, and 2009. She has had several solo exhibitions in Northern Nevada and participated in numerous group exhibits. Her art is in private and permanent collections, including Renown Health’s art gallery, Wally’s World, and Western Nevada College. She exhibits her work at Ryrie & Me in Reno; Carson City Art Gallery in Carson City; and the Tahoe Art League in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
