From The Editor- Spring 2020

This letter is dedicated to our talented contributors. We want to thank them for 11 years of beautifully written and expertly edited stories as well as stunning photographs, illustrations, and designs. These masters of words and images make the magazine come alive with distinct voices and spectacular depictions of the local food-and-drink community. Our Spring issue is no exception.

For instance, I’m absolutely in love with the Borda Ranch sheep and scenic photos taken by Ty O’Neil in this issue. The Fallon-based photojournalist captured the majesty of Nevada’s mountains and plains. Award-winning photographer, Shea Evans, only shoots food and food stories, including the photos of Moody’s in this issue. But he did make an exception when he shot bees for our Fall ’16 cover.

Also in this issue, you’ll see eye-catching images by Shaun Hunter of a 4-H student and of Bee Heroic. Candice Vivien shot several assignments in this issue. But I adore her photo of the beekeeper in the Bees4Vets story on the cover What a knockout.

Shout-outs to our other frequent photographers, including Jeff Ross, Digiman Studios, Jamie Kingham, Jen Schmidt, Kari Spalinger, Lou Manna, and Asa Gilmore. You’ll find their exquisite work in this issue and our online archive.

The magazine is much more than pretty pictures. Our wordsmiths tell riveting stories that keep readers glued to the page.

Claire McArthur is a regular writer for us, as are Natasha Bourlin, Sharon Honig-Bear, Christina Nellemann, Heidi Bethel, Tamsin Edwards, Michael Tragash, Michael Moberly, Suzie Dundas, Sandra Macias, Kurt Bickel, Annie Flanzraich, Barbara Twitchell, and Ann Lindemann.

In addition to our usual photographers and writers, we are excited to work with creative folks who are new to the magazine as well. Whether familiar or fresh, our contributors are personable, deadline oriented, and rarely need heavy editing.

Speaking of editors, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Jessica Santina, whom I’ve worked with for about 15 years. She’s clever, fast, and just a wonderful person. At edible Reno-Tahoe, she’s helped me orchestrate the content, make assignments, wrangle contributors, edit copy, and overall manage the innerworkings. She’s my right hand and I couldn’t do it without her. Another important player is our copy editor, Doresa Banning, who has kept this book clean of errors and our style in check for 11 years.

On the design side, we enjoy working with Terri DeLaRosby, who expertly whips out attractive and effective ads for our clients. Last but not least, husband-and-wife team Matthew and Tina Freeman, our editorial designers, make the magazine gleam with sophistication and emotion, while delivering a cohesive and clear impact.

We are lucky to have this creative talent. They keep us looking good.

Happy reading!

Amanda
