You may buy directly from local farmers through the following Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs. Connecting to the origins of your food, and the people who grow it, is powerful.
CSAs are one way to link up local farmers and consumers without having to pick through the farmers’ markets each week. Reno CSA farms may take the form of a weekly delivery or pickup that you pay for up front at the beginning of the season, while other programs allow you to choose your frequency and pay as you go.
Some farmers even include recipe suggestions or farm operation updates with each CSA delivery. So get to know farmers in the Reno-Tahoe region through a local CSA this year.
Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is a great way for consumers to buy healthy, seasonal food directly from local farmers. The way it works is simple: consumers buy farm shares, usually in the form of a membership or a subscription. The farmers then have the money to grow their crops and run their farms. In return, members receive fresh, locally grown produce, fruits, eggs, and meats. There are many CSA programs in the Reno-Tahoe area that offer everything from weekly home delivery, pick up or special occasion orders, so you can find the right CSA for you.
In addition to supporting sustainable farming, there are many other great reasons to sign up for a CSA program. Consumers receive fresh, nutritious food to support a healthy lifestyle. CSAs provide vegetables and food that consumers may not have tried before. Consumers also develop a relationship with the farmer and have a better understanding of where their food comes from.
