The University of Nevada, Reno’s Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC), a nonprofit leading northern Nevada’s global engagement through refugee resettlement, language access and translation services and international exchange programs, will celebrate refugees, asylees and evacuees new to northern Nevada at its fourth annual World Refugee Day event on Sunday, June 23. The free event will be held at Miguel Ribera Park located at 3295 Neil Road from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will have a chance to connect with these new Nevadans while exploring a resource village offering information and resources within the community, multicultural music and dancing, performances from refugees, and family-friendly activities. Additionally, refugee speakers will provide remarks to attendees, sharing about what it means to be in Nevada after fleeing their home countries due to conflict or oppression.
