Grammy award winners Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero collided at the tender age of 15 at the House of Culture in Mexico City, directed at the time by Rodrigo’s brother.
That chance meeting would kick off a decades-long personal and professional relationship, leading them across the ocean to Europe, to the States, and beyond.
Interest in the duo actually seriously began while they were living in Dublin, Ireland, dropping their first album, Foc, in 2001. It would be the first of many. They’ve played worldwide at venues like Dublin, Manchester, London, Nice, Havana, Austin, Texas, and more, all while staying true to their acoustic flamenco roots while adding a unique, heavily influenced hard rock style. Gabriela is even featured on the score of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
The Independent writes, “Rodrigo y Gabriela’s secret is maybe quite simple. They are resourceful musicians, and are open-hearted, happy entertainers. That, very often, is what people want.”
