SWEET RELIEF

Magic Bullet is a nutritious hangover cure.

Ugh. It’s 6 a.m. Head is pounding. Stomach queasy. The day is filled with responsibility. And just then, the 1-year-old begins to stir in his crib.

“Why did I drink that last glass?” you ask pitifully. “It seemed like such a great idea at the time. A strong liver is wasted on the young.”

Then “Oh dear!” as you run for the nearest bathroom.

A hangover is dreadful. Coupled with work or childcare or, really, any activity in daylight, the morning after a great (or not-so-great) night out can be filled with regret.

Introducing Magic Bullet. Intended as a preventative beverage, this sweet, blood-orange-flavored, slightly effervescent drink can be used before, during, and after a night of drinking. And for me, it really does take the hurt away.

Stumbling upon a solution

“I started using a derivative of this product in 2005 as a liver cleanse,” says Didi Edwards, self-described head lush at Rebound Nutraceuticals, the maker of Magic Bullet. “About five years ago, I realized the supplements I was taking prevented me from having a hangover. We shared our solution with friends and, inevitably, would get a call about how they were wowed because they were out biking or snowshoeing after partying the night before.”

Didi and her husband, Joe Edwards, knew they had something but didn’t want to take it to the market in pill form. For two years, they worked with a flavoring company and nutritional compounder to develop a delicious beverage for the imbibing masses. Now, with the help of Reno local Tory Friedman, Rebound Nutraceuticals brand manager in Nevada, San Diego-based Magic Bullet is helping those who had a little too much fun in the Sierra Nevada.

“As soon as we came up with our final drink, the first question we were asked was, ‘How would Magic Bullet taste with a little vodka or tequila?’ It ended up being a mixer without even realizing we were doing it,” Joe says.

Filled with a slew of good vitamins and minerals, Magic Bullet is great for liver support and doesn’t contain any caffeine or stimulants.

“You’re able to take it at night, go to bed, and actually sleep,” Didi says. “And you can use it as a post-detox the next morning. Within the next 30 minutes, you feel a significant difference. It’s magic in a bottle.”

Freelance writer Heidi Bethel has certainly spent some time nursing away the aftermath of a few too many, and she is grateful for this good-tasting potion to help the cause.
