Welcoming Spring

Welcoming Spring

Did you know that edible Reno-Tahoe released its FIRST ISSUE in Spring 2010?! Our birthday wish? Many more years to celebrate the amazing local farmers, ranchers, restaurateurs, and foodies that keep this area’s local food movement flourishing.

We went green in Spring 2015 and gave you 30 Ways to Eat, Drink, Grow, Buy, and Live Green. Planting fruit and nut trees, not wasting food, and eating fish low on the food chain, are just a few good reminders of how you can go green and reduce your carbon footprint.

We’re all about promoting good food production and education in our community. In Spring 2014, we jumped feet first (like a kid) into the local 4-H programs, which mentor our youth and teach them all about natural agriculture and animal husbandry. A Good Shepherd explores how Abel Mendeguia helps with the local 4-H sheep programs.

In Spring 2013, we were obsessed with tea! We went to high tea, met a tea adventurer who settled in Reno, and even listed all the wonderful local establishments where you can buy tea

In the Spring 2012 edition, we showed you how to prep your soil for the season’s garden in Edible Garden — Compost provides key nutrients for healthy gardening soil. Composting at home is easy! And you can’t go more “local” than recycling your own waste to benefit your backyard.

The spring season welcomes chicks and fresh eggs, just in time for Easter. Read Happy Hens — In pursuit of free-range egg-celence in Reno-Tahoe from Spring 2011 to find local resources for procuring eggs from free-range, humanely raised hens.

And going back to 2010, and our mission, we compiled Farm to Table — Why eat natural, local foodRead the compelling claims as to why you should be supporting your local farmers and ranchers, why it’s actually environmentally responsible to buy organic, and how it all has a major affect on your health.
