TROA Settled After 27 Years

TROA Settled After 27 Years

The Truckee River is making ripples and things are about to change, for the better.

The Truckee River Operating Agreement (TROA) is being implemented after 27 years of negotations. The new regulations will affect many from Nevada and California, including the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, area farmers, and ranchers.

Food producers are dependant upon sustainble water use, and the recent drought Reno-Tahoe is experiencing has been a hardship for many continually seeking to raise animals for local meat and maintain crops for local co-ops/farmers’ markets.

The areas storms have already rasied the Truckee River’s water level. TROA will now change the allocation of all of this incoming water.

“Here we talk about compromise and make things happen,” says Geno Martini, Sparks Mayor, of the hard work and commitment many have had to the TROA agreement over the years.
