Green Solutions

Make your next car one that’s better for the environment with help from Bill Pearce Motors in Reno; Plant an organic edible garden with help from Verdant Connections, Basin and Range Organics, or Rail City Garden Center; Compost and enrich your soil with Full Circle Compost; Or buy an organic, chemical-free mattress at The Sleep Shop. To get involved, try volunteering with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful or attending a local Earth Day event such as Tahoe Truckee Earth Day. Finally, support local business owners consciously making an effort to go green and reduce their carbon footprints, such as The Peppermill Resort Hotel, Haws Corp., EP Minerals, BVW Jewelers, and Keep NV Green recycling services. Whether you’re looking for model eco-friendly businesses in our community or are curious about where to recycle certain items, we’ve got you covered.

It’s Easy Being Green

Because edible Reno-Tahoe’s mission speaks to making a positive difference in our environment (and community) by eating well and supporting local, natural, and organic choices, we’ve also compiled 30 Ways to Eat, Drink, Grow, Buy, and Live Green. What have you done to live more sustainably? Have you ever thought about growing your own vegetables to reduce your food miles and carbon footprints? What about making composting easy by keeping a container on your kitchen counter to collect fruit and vegetable scraps during food prep? There are countless ways you can make simple changes in your daily routine to live more environmentally friendly. The way you grow, purchase, and prepare food seriously can affect not only your health but also your environment. Other ideas include using healthy cookware (without Teflon and aluminum). You can use alternative materials such as stainless steel, cast iron, and glass, which will eliminate toxic fumes released by cooking with Teflon and aluminum. Regardless of how you do it, there are adoptions you can make in your life to promote the earth’s well being, as well as your own. Just do it!
