  • Small but Mighty

Vegetables are vital to our diets โ€” no news there. But did you know that some vegetables, while still in their infancy, are especially packed with powerful nutrients, some possessing up to 40 times the micronutrient concentration of their full-grown counterparts?

  • Botanical Beverages

The extraction of the essences of herbs and flowers to create elixirs has been practiced since ancient times. These sweet potions were advertised as able to cure a range of ailments, from clinical depression to coughing fits. The herbs may have been helpful, but the alcohol in them was not.

  • Whiskey 101

Whiskeyโ€™s golden-brown color, warm aroma, and complex taste make it a favorite spirit for many, but for newcomers, the strong, almost obnoxious alcohol burn might interfere with that experience. As with any food or drink, enjoying whiskey requires training your palate. Most people donโ€™t visit a Thai or Indian restaurant and order the highest spice level, and they donโ€™t start with Italian roast black coffee either. • Cut and a Cocktail

A large brick building with an almost-secret entrance, an old-school barbershop doubling as a boysโ€™ club, barbers dressed to the nines in button-ups and vests โ€” everything about Derby Supply Co., the barbershop with a full bar opened by Reno native Vinnie Gravallese, screams Old-World charm. Modeled after businesses in Boston and New York that operate half underground out of historic buildings, the shop pays homage to Gravalleseโ€™s East Coast roots, without skipping the modern amenities or haircuts.
