More Than Vegetables
Harvest Festival and Pig Roast, and growing community at Mountain Bounty Farm.
Just across the Sierra in Nevada City, Mountain Bounty Farm has been growing organic produce for more than 28 years. Nestled in the foothills above the Yuba River, the farm supplies weekly CSA boxes of seasonal vegetables and fruit to families throughout the region โ including many in Reno, Truckee, and the Lake Tahoe basin. The farm also has formed some great partnerships with local producers for offerings such as mushrooms from Mountain Mushrooms and bread from Belovedโs Bread, both based in Reno.
At Mountain Bounty, farming always has been about more than vegetables. Itโs about community โ connecting people to their food, to each other, and to the land that sustains us. We are unique in that our land is owned by the local Bear Yuba Land Trust (BYLT), which guarantees the property will be farmed in perpetuity.
This season, weโve hosted a series of gatherings that reflect that open community spirit. In July, more than 150 friends and neighbors joined us for a Farm Dance Square Dance and Jam, complete with live old-time music from Emilie Rose (Two Runner) and an open jam that carried late into the night.
Later in the summer, the BYLT hosted a Poetry on Preserves afternoon, which brought together local writers, readers, and food lovers for a quieter celebration of words, flavor, and seasonality.
Following this low-key event, BYLT hosted the lively Music in the Meadows,a FREE golden-hour concert, featuring the energetic stylings of the band Boot Juice and local favorite Dellow & Friends, funded bythe Arts in California Parks Local Parks Program. Families picnicked in the grass, kids played near the fields, and the whole evening offered a simple reminder of how good it feels to gather around local food and music.
As the season winds down, weโre looking ahead to our annual Harvest Festival and Pig Roast. Where we invite all in the community to come celebrate the abundance of the season at our stunning farm, celebrating hard work and good company. This is an event you won’t want to miss! Indulge in mouthwatering food, including a pig roast and a farm-fresh feast, with Colombian flair, prepared straight from our fields by restaurant Comedor! After this field-to-fork meal, the fun continues with live music and dancing led by the Shire Punks. We welcome all to come join the fun! You can purchase tickets here!
At Mountain Bounty, weโre reminded again and again that farming is as much about people as it is about growing food. These events help us stay connected to the larger community that supports small farms like ours. Learn more about our farm, CSA deliveries, and upcoming events at Mountainbountyfarm.com. Weโd love to share our harvest with you.
