Flutter & Buzz Cafรฉ landed on Genoaโ€™s Main Street in fall of 2024. Eighteen months later, the modern cafรฉ is thriving, offering the community whole foods with local roots and a gathering space just for them.

โ€œWe are not just about coffee โ€” itโ€™s about our community, creativity, and connection,โ€ says Brandy Thompson, who co-owns Flutter & Buzz with her husband, Michael.

The breakfast-and-lunch spot (which also serves Mindenโ€™s Hoch Family Ice Cream) toes the line between the historic charm of Genoa and the modern needs of its community. In the morning, the cafรฉ opens at 8 a.m. to serve coffee, breakfast, and brunch. The menu includes dishes such as made-to-order egg scrambles, avocado toast, houseโ€‘made pastries, a lineup of flavorful mimosas, and vibrant, nutrient-packed aรงai bowls. The emphasis is on organic, whole health foods that people feel good about eating. Much of the menu is locally sourced and aligns with the ownersโ€™ values of health and sustainability.

The coffee beans, while not local, come from Purity Coffee, which is certified organic and regeneratively farmed.

For lunch, Flutter & Buzz specializes in made-from-scratch salads, artisan sandwiches, and soups. The owners donโ€™t just feed the community in the traditional sense; they give back to neighbors by supporting other regional businesses whenever possible. And in a town that punches above its weight in terms of culinary expertise, Flutter & Buzz fits right in.

In addition to overseeing all aspects of cafรฉ operations, Brandy leads community engagement initiatives for Vail Resorts Epic Promise and serves as the community outreach director for the Family Support Council. Michael works in security and surveillance at Caesars Entertainment in Lake Tahoe. The couple is raising twin sons in Genoa.

โ€œWe had a shared vision of creating a welcoming, uplifting space in Genoa where community and quality come together,โ€ Brandy says.

In addition to a healthy menu, the two offer a space thatโ€™s open on select evenings for community events and even have a rentable outdoor venue.

โ€œThe name reflects the energy and positivity [we] wanted to infuse into every cup of coffee, plate of food, and customer interaction,โ€ Brandy says.

Itโ€™s also a clever nod to the honey infused in many of the cafรฉโ€™s dishes.

โ€œHoney is more than just a sweetener at Flutter & Buzz,โ€ Brandy says. โ€œItโ€™s an ingredient that reflects the cafรฉโ€™s values of locally sourced, natural nourishment and connection to the land.โ€
