Natural Dyeing + Weaving
May 2 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join regional artist Hannah Watson for this two-day workshop!
This workshop will introduce students to the vast and varied textile language of natural dyeing and weaving practices! We’ll spend the first day learning about mordanting—or preparing our wool and silk yarns to dye with plants—and then dyeing our yarns using ground natural dyes.
Day two will be dedicated to weaving on pre-warped (table) looms with our dyed weft yarns! Throughout this workshop, students will be guided through the basic chemistry involved in natural dyeing processes, preparation of their yarns for dyeing and for weaving, and an array of beginning weaving techniques in this two day workshop. The potency of natural color never ceases to amaze and will surely inspire new weavers to experiment at the loom.
Students will leave class with a woven sample upon which to build for future projects!
This class is open to new weavers and dyers or those who are seasoned in the practice.
All students will take home their very own tabletop, fully assembled wooden loom, shuttle and comb if the selection is made below.
If you choose to bring your own loom, please make sure it is the same flat weave table top loom we use in-class or similar and select the option below.
