Drinks 2022

  • Sips Worth the Trip

When it comes to the cocktails he concocts for his guests, Steven Sedillos, the Atlantis Casino Resort Spaโ€™s property mixologist, enjoys creative combinations and finds inspiration throughout the region โ€ฆ including some unusual locales.

  • The Vines That Bind

It started simply enough. In November 2001, Karen Bowman-Binks invited five couples over on a weekend night for wine and appetizers. The couples, whose children attended school together, shared a love of wine. A teacher at Sarah Winnemucca Elementary School in Reno, Bowman-Binks even prepared handouts describing the history and flavor notes of the Oregon wines, which were paired with the shrimp and fresh mozzarella appetizers. An early evening with light fare meant the parents of young children could get on with the rest of their weekend plans.

  • Big Flavors and Big Plans

Located in a sprawling 30,000-square-foot building in Sparks, Revision Brewing Co. has brewed award-winning, hop-forward beers since 2017. The second nationally distributed brewery that brewmaster and CEO Jeremy Warren founded, Revision brings an edgy vibe with a constant flow of new releases to the Sierra-based roster of beer purveyors. As success continues to bubble up for the beverage maker, Warren and his team have big plans for their new seltzer, expansion project, and possible second location.

  • Embracing Sobriety

Life in restaurant kitchens is tough, and chefs bear the cuts, burns, and scars to prove it. Thereโ€™s the frenetic pace as cooks on the line work to prepare consistently delicious dishes for expectant patrons, spending long hours on their feet in sweltering hot kitchens. By the end of a shift, itโ€™s common to find chefs bellying up to the bar, alongside other kitchen and wait staffs, ready to kick back after a high-stress evening.

  • Steeped in Evergreen

Trek through the beautiful alpine forests in the Sierra Nevada region and youโ€™re sure to encounter majestic Douglas fir trees. Not only do these beauties stand tall, providing cover and refuge to little critters, but also, their evergreen needles are intact year round, can be harvested in winter, and offer a memorable essence when used in libations.

  • Singular sensation

Bourbon is all about storytelling; each sip of bourbon should paint a picture of the time and effort that went into that single glass. One of the most overlooked aspects of the whiskey-making process is the number of variables in each barrel. From where the tree used to make the barrel staves was located to where the barrel was placed inside the rackhouse, any number of factors can affect how the whiskey in each barrel tastes. That is why so many bourbons are blends; marrying many barrels allows for a consistent product to be made in larger quantities.
