Mr. Churros

Mr. Churros, a dessert food truck based in Reno, celebrated its grand opening Feb. 15. Owned by Jose and Alondra Hueso and Lorenzo Vega, the restaurant used to operate under Mr. Churros Hueso and sold at local events under a tent. The grand opening unveiled the company’s new mobile concept, which is typically parked at the Silverada Mall Friday-Sunday. However, they do often pop-up at Northern Nevada events including in Sparks and Virginia City. The menu is short and sweet with three sizes of Jalisco-style churros plus sauce and toppings options. Sometimes the availability changes, but in general you can expect items such as chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, condensed milk, and fresh fruit. Elixir Superfood and Juice

Elixir Superfood and Juice is coming to South Lake Tahoe. The health food spot with counter serve salads, bowls, smoothies, juices, and more has officially franchised. While the first three locations โ€” including two in Reno and one in Mammoth โ€” are owned by Karla and Charles Perry, the South Lake store will be franchised by Teri Jo and Bob Felkel. The team is targeting an early summer opening in the Bijou Shopping Center. The project is currently under construction. The South Lake store will be the second franchise to open behind an Irvine, Calif., store set for an April 15 debut.

West Street Coffee and Bistro

West Street Coffee and Bistro celebrated its soft opening this month with a specialty menu available for the occasion. The new spot in the West Street Market replaces Sabrinaโ€™s West Street Kitchen, which closed in 2025, and brings Creole-inspired fare and American comfort food to the space. Griffin Brown, a Truckee native who moved to Reno 10 years ago, owns the new business. She also opened The Pot Luck Truck mobile restaurant five years ago. Her limited soft opening menu, available through March 15, gives guests a sample of what is to come including breakfast specialties like a lemon ricotta stuffed French toast and a collection of salads and sandwiches that includes a signature BLT for lunch. The restaurant also serves mimosas, juices, sodas, and Italian sodas.

Silk Cafe and Bar

Silk Cafe and Bar is hosting its soft opening on March 20. The modern Vietnamese restaurant and bar is a collaboration between Toan Loi, former Chef de Cuisine at the Asian Kitchen in Atlantis Casino, and his wife, Phoi Sin. โ€œWe are driven by youthful energy and a bold new vision,โ€ Loi says. โ€œOur goal is to bring something unique with creativity and exciting to the community.โ€ The new spot is located on Prater Way in Sparks. Menu items include shrimp and tofu pad Thai, black pepper beef fillet noodles, and a fried chicken and rice plate.

Centro Market

Centro Market in Carson City is slated for a mid-April 2026 opening. The 23,160-square-foot grocery store has been under construction since November 2024, but SB Builders LLC, the general contracting firm behind the commercial project, announced the completion of the $5 million project March 13. The store was designed with the customer experience front of mind. Owners Herbert Muro and Armando Valencia chose an updated layout focused on accessibility, enhanced navigation, comfort, and convenience, as well as opting for modern design elements in a mission revival style. The overall project also improved parking and includes indoor and outdoor dining spaces for shoppers. Located at 3312 Highway 50 East, the new Centro Market replaces its former storefront at 2974 U.S. Hwy. 50 East.

Chop Stop Salad Co.

Chop Stop Salad Co. is coming to Plumb Lane in Reno. Local franchisee Steve Ferguson announced the second Reno location on his Instagram page with a projected opening date of spring 2026. Located at Plumb Lane and Yori Avenue, itโ€™ll be the second storefront for Ferguson and his wife. The first opened in 2020 in SouthTowne Crossing in south Reno. The fast casual, healthy-food option will include a drive through, much like its existing location. The menu focuses on a lineup of wraps, salads, and chopurritos, a type of rice bowl.

Abbyโ€™s Highway 40 & Dumpling Queen

Piper Stremmel, Chris Reilly, and Dash and Nicky Gopinath have sold Abbyโ€™s Highway 40 and Dumpling Queen in Renoโ€™s brewery district. Originally reopened in 2022, the new owners โ€” Shane Turner and Shelby Hagensmith โ€” do not plan to change the name, concept, or atmosphere. According to Stremmel, โ€œIt will remain a dive bar with an updated back patio.โ€ They do, however, plan to bring in more music and champion the aspects of the business that align with East Fourthย Street, including participating in larger events.ย Stremmel and Reilly still own the building Abbyโ€™s Highway 40 is housed in and when they re-open the Morris Burner Hostel building they are currently renovating, the businesses will share a parking lot and event space behind it.

Tahoe Press + Pour

Tahoe Press + Pour celebrated its grand opening on March 14. The Tahoe City cafรฉ specializes in cold-pressed juices, smoothies, and craft coffee with a small grab-and-go menu of soups and salads. The grand opening comes just one week after the company debuted its brand during a two-day soft opening event March 7 and 8. Built around playful juxtapositions, Press + Pour believes in focusing on freshness, sustainability, and community. The juice program is overseen by Pete Katin, a name you may recognize from the farmerโ€™s market as the head of Tahoe City Juice Co., and Chris Taylor of the Tahoe Tap Haus brings a deep passion for craft beverages and coffee. Located in Cobblestone Center in the former Gravity Shop space, the business is a new venture for Tahoe Tap Haus Group.

FiftyFiftyย Brewing Co. Truckee

In late February, FiftyFifty Brewing Co. opened in its new spot in the Old Lumberyard redevelopment on Church Street in Truckee. It served its last pints and meals at the former location at the Rock on Brockway Road in Truckee on Feb. 7, where it opened in 2007.

TeaCupFuls

A Bend-based tea shop celebrated its grand opening in Sparks on Feb. 28. The Boba shop, named TeaCupFuls, is located inside of The Outlets at Legends. The menu includes a lineup of milk and energy-infused teas in a variety of flavors and colors, some topped with soft and sweet heapings of cotton candy. In addition to classic orders such as Tiger Tea, youโ€™ll also see some creative options, including noncaffeinated beverages. The menu is rounded out with slushies, chais, and various coffee beverages. TheTeaCupFuls Boba Tea brand started in Oregon in 2017.

Tsuki Ramen

The owners of Thai Lotus are bringing a new restaurant to Renoโ€™s Midtown District. Tsuki Ramen is opening next to Moo Dang and Loco Ono, replacing a vape shop. The restaurant is still in its early stages, with a business license filed through the City of Reno and plans for a remodel. An opening date is unknown at this time.

FiftyFifty Brewing Company

FiftyFifty Brewing Company celebrated its soft opened in Reno Public Market in Reno on March 12. The FiftyFifty crew is smoking all of its own meats and using a lot of local products, such as from Belovedโ€™s Bread and Flocchini Sausage, in the upscale pub menu. Chef Jacob Burton and Chef Alex Downing have brought their skills in fine dining to create an approachable casual food menu with many delicious choices. One standout is the Lychee Ceviche, a vegan dish. The restaurant/brewery will be open every day for lunch and dinner.

Seoulful Bites

The owners of Seoulful Bites are bringing a new concept to Reno. Opening at 1651 N. Virginia St. near the University of Nevada, Reno, the family-owned ramen bar will focus on quick and casual bites of bold Korean flavors with a self-service format. The space is undergoing a full remodel with help from local interior decorator Nisha Stewart of Stewart Street Studios. The restaurant owners hope to open soon. Renaissance Hotel

The local owners of Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Reno sold the property Feb. 27 for more than $37 million to Noble Hospitality Fund V REIT, LLC, a real estate-investment manager that focuses on value-add investments in select-service and extended-stay hotels. The Renaissance houses The Shore restaurant as well as Bundox Bocce, which includes a large bar. Itโ€™s unknown if those will be impacted with the sale.

Sarah Craichy

Lake Tahoe-based Sarah Craichy, who leads the pastry team at Edgewood Tahoe Resort, is one of the contestants scheduled to appear on the Food Networkโ€™s The Ultimate Baking Championship season one, debuting March 9. Jesse Palmer serves as host of the baking competition with a $50,000 prize pot. Each week pastry chefs go head to head, whittling down from 16 contestants to one.
