Food for thought at new Raley’s O-N-E Market.
If you’ve shopped at the Raley’s market off Wedge Parkway in Reno recently, you likely noticed things look a bit different. The grocer just introduced its new concept, Raley’s O-N-E Market, at the Wedge Parkway location. The market offers a highly curated assortment of wholesome products vetted through a banned-ingredients list, along with nutrition education and a free health and wellness program.
“We live in a time now where there’s lots of info out there and it’s very hard to figure out what can be best for your health,” explains Scott Brown, MS, RDN, and nutrition advisor for Raley’s O-N-E Market. “Through our Raley’s O-N-E Market, we serve as a trusted source to take care of the folks shopping with us and care for the community. Here you can get food and an experience. We educate customers and give them a great experience helping to navigate our store.”
Store Offerings
Reno’s Raley’s O-N-E Market is the third of its kind, with the other two located in Truckee and El Dorado Hills, Calif. Under the support and guidance of nutrition experts, including Yvette Waters, MS, RDN, CISSN, and Nutrition Strategist and Brand Influencer for Raley’s, the company has already seen great success with the new supermarket concept.
“It’s been a really great story for us,” Waters says. “It’s supporting our company’s mission, changing the way the world eats one plate at a time. We opened our first Raley’s O-N-E Market in Truckee in June 2020. We have now expanded the brand, converting our El Dorado Hills store in Northern California and our store in Reno.”
Renovations include an updated display platform and changes in the products to feature a highly curated assortment of food that’s fresh, nutritious, organic when possible, minimally processed, and sustainably sourced. In every department, the items are carefully selected to exclude ingredients from the Raley’s O-N-E Market banned-ingredients list — a list of more than 100 questionable or unhealthy ingredients that will not be in the products on the shelves. Items within the store are divided into nine categories, with stringent guidelines they must meet, including:
– Meats: Must be antibiotic free with no added hormones, nitrates, or nitrites. They are humanely raised and grass-fed whenever possible.
– Seafood: Wild-caught, with shellfish being responsibly farmed. All seafood is third-party-certified sustainable.
– Deli and Food Service: Ingredients are free from artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners. Meats are hormone- and antibiotic-free, and the store carries organic milk, cheeses, produce, veggies, and dressings whenever possible.
– Produce: Fruits and vegetables are organically and locally sourced whenever possible.
– Dairy and Eggs: Eggs are 100-percent cage-free. Raley’s is committed to sourcing free -range, pasture raised, Certified Humanely Raised and USDA Organic whenever possible.
– Groceries: Packaged items are free from artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and sweeteners; free from high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated fats, and oils; and organically sourced whenever possible.
– Health, Beauty and Household Items: Hypoallergenic, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and sulfate-free options are offered with a commitment to sourcing Cruelty-Free certified and Rainforest-Alliance certified whenever possible. Items do not contain artificial preservatives, colors, or aluminum.
– Pet Foods: Wholesome and natural pet foods without artificial flavors, sweeteners, and preservatives.
– Bakery: All baked items are made with clean ingredients and free from artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, and preservatives. Maturing agents and dough are conditioner-free.
“The product selection really is exceptional; the items we have on the shelf are fantastic,” Brown notes.
A Little Something Extra
In addition to quality foods and products, the folks at Raley’s O-N-E Market are dedicated to educating the community about nutrition and how best to navigate the store. They perform onboarding nutrition education to all employees and free nutrition services to customers, including nutrition coaching, classes, and store tours for members of the Something Extra reward club — a free loyalty program with special incentives online and throughout all Raley’s locations.
The monthly themed classes include company-wide health and wellness themes; a three-part series on banned ingredients, immunity, reading the nutrition facts panel, and food labeling; physical activity and health, and more.
“The nutrition classes are our way of helping teach customers about the latest in food trends and our banned ingredients list and other important topics,” Brown explains. “Right now we’re offering the classes virtually and, with COVID-19 compliance, they will be in store.”

This awesome vegetarian grilled wedge salad will be a big hit with your barbecue guests, whether they’re vegetarian or not. Inspired by Grecian flavors like Greek yogurt, cucumber, and mint, this Greek Grilled Cabbage recipe is easy, light, and delicious.
Vegetable or grapeseed oil for grilling
1 medium clove garlic, smashed
4 ounces goat cheese
1½ cups plain, whole milk Greek yogurt
2 cups fresh mint leaves, minced and divided
2 cups fresh parsley leaves, minced and divided
3 tablespoons Raley’s Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, divided
1 medium lemon, juiced and divided
1 tablespoon Raley’s Mediterranean Sea Salt, divided
1 medium head purple cabbage, chopped into 6 wedges
3 medium cucumbers, sliced
½ cup Inka Crops Inka Corn, crushed (or Corn Nuts)
Place garlic, goat cheese, yogurt, 1 cup mint, 1 cup parsley, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice into a food processor or blender. Pulse until smooth. Transfer yogurt mixture to a medium bowl, season with 1 teaspoon salt, and set aside.
Preheat grill to 400 degrees F. Cut cabbage in half, then cut each half into 3 wedges. Drizzle with remaining oil and salt.
Place cabbage on grill and cook until charred on all sides and a knife slips easily through the center of the wedges, about 10 minutes on each side.
Transfer to a cutting board and let cool 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, toss cucumbers and remaining mint, parsley, and lemon juice in a medium bowl. Crush Inca Corn.
Pour a drizzle of the yogurt mixture over plates. Top with grilled cabbage wedges, cucumber salad, and crushed Inka Corn. Drizzle with remaining olive oil and serve immediately.
