Nevada Humane Society’s Annual Fundraiser, Heels and Hounds 2023, presents Bubbles & Buddies

It’s time to dig out your favorite hero outfit (no cape required). Something a bit more stylish and elegant, like chic cocktail attire, will do just fine – and look a lot better with that flute of Champagne in your hand.

What? Did we neglect to mention that this heroic quest involves unlimited Champagne, in addition to a delicious brunch, a fashion show, fabulous auctions, and some adorable four-legged friends? Bubbles & Buddies will include them all, and more!

The Heels and Hounds Gala, currently celebrating its seventh year, is the premier fundraising event for the Nevada Humane Society, Nevada’s only no-kill, open-admission animal shelter. The event typically raises over $100,000, helping to fund lifesaving costs and care for the more than 18,000 pets served annually by the shelter. That’s the heroic part.

Bubbles and Brunch

The 2023 Bubbles & Buddies Champagne Brunch will be hosted in the Tuscany Ballroom of Reno’s beautiful Peppermill Resort on Sat., April 8, 2023, 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. PDT. An enthusiastic gathering of 600 attendees will come together to enjoy the fine food and festivities.

In addition to unlimited Champagne, brunch will feature a Frittata Friuli Plated Breakfast with prosciutto, spinach, fontina cheese, and caramelized onions, served with baby tomato basil relish. A vegetarian frittata, sans prosciutto, also will be offered. To top off the meal, a surprise dessert will be served.

Effervescent Entertainment

One of the major components of the Heels and Hounds Fundraising Gala has always been the very popular fashion show featuring Reno-based models, according to Nikki Moylan, marketing assistant for the Nevada Humane Society.

“All of the models have a special connection with the Nevada Humane Society, whether they’ve adopted from us or worked with us in the past or they’re big volunteers and supporters,” Moylan says. “Basically, it’s a great opportunity to recognize those who have gone above and beyond expectations in service of our mission.”

A fashion show will showcase models with pets

The broader community gets involved in this fun show as well. The models are all dressed by Reno clothing stores, in addition to getting their hair and makeup done by local stylists. Then they walk the runway, or perhaps “catwalk” might be a more apt term in this case, with their own pet or one that is available for adoption. Their inspiring stories, and those of their respective four-legged companions, will be shared with the audience as they strut their stuff.

In addition to the adoptable pets on the runway, there also will be other shelter pets (including about 10 to 13 puppies!) on site for immediate adoption. The number and varieties are contingent upon the population in the shelter at the time. (Please note that attendees may NOT bring their own pets to the gala, but you can get your fill of love and licks, pets and cuddles, by interacting with the adoptable pets that will be on display!)

And, just for the fun of it, there will be a photo booth to capture some memorable moments of you and your two-legged buddies — and maybe that four-legged buddy you decide to adopt.

Not in the market for a new pet right now? There’ll be lots of other items you might consider taking home with you. The gala will feature both a live auction and a silent auction, full of many interesting and desirable items you can bid on.
