Wondrous Winter Cocktails

Sip on new seasonal selections at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.

When the seasons change, so do the flavor profiles at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa’s captivating bars and lounges. Atlantis mixologist Steve Sedillos helps guests explore new horizons by concocting a creative assortment of seasonally driven cocktails at the property’s multitude of watering holes.

How does he keep his imaginative edge each time the temperatures turn?

“It’s about having an idea, building around it, and painting a picture … balancing the flavors and colors and making it attractive, from garnish to glassware,” Sedillos says. “The most important part is how it tastes.”

He’s proud of his curated concepts and explains that he’s honored to craft cocktails to be served alongside exceptional cuisine from the award-winning Atlantis culinary team.

But even in his off time, he’s researching and finding inspiration to elevate Atlantis guests’ experience.

“I see what everyone else in Reno is doing, and travel … where I check out other bars and creations,” Sedillos says. “I look for things that give me a wow factor. When reading about a mixologist coming up in Vegas or New York City and seeing what they’re doing, I think, ‘Hey, I want to do that, too!’”

Often his creations stem from the classics, such as two new offerings at the Atlantis Steakhouse Bar: the winter honey, a play on a bee’s knees cocktail, that mixes gin, honey, lemon, and a seasonal spiced syrup, and the campfire song, an experiential old fashioned with added flair (see “Dressed to Impress” for more about this cocktail’s presentation).

At Bistro Napa, look for several new temptations, such as the juiced in time, made from Laird’s Applejack, spiced apple shrub, fresh lemon, and orange bitters with a cinnamon-sugar rim. Another is the you better not pout, a blend of Tanqueray gin, Licor 43, Zucca Rabarbaro, and cranberry-clove syrup, garnished with fresh lime.
