About the artist

Candace Garlock

Title of Print: Harvest Wind

Medium: Collagraph intaglio print

“When I was asked to respond to the theme of Nevada fall crops, I immediately envisioned my husband in past years, consuming our homegrown tomatoes as soon as I brought them in from the garden. I also thought about potatoes and how they grow from a spiral of shoots, creating a vast network of tubers and fibrous roots. As the image emerged, I found myself cutting and piecing elements together in a circle that felt like wind rotating. We have so much dry wind here in Nevada, and I’m still amazed at how many crops we do grow.”

Candace Nicol Garlock is an artist working in Reno and a professor of art at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno. She is a board member and co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Printmaking Alliance. She was awarded the distinguished Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship grant in 2009 and the 2017 Nevada Regents’ Creative Activities Award.
