Homebite connects local chefs for in-home dining experiences.

Homebite co-founders Benjamin Griffith and Alex Tash began offering a sense of comfort and memorable meals to those yearning for pseudo-restaurant experiences once the pandemic hit. Their new online service, developed in Reno, matches chefs nationwide with customers nationwide for meal preparation inside their homes.

“It’s a chefs-on-demand service,” Griffith explains. “This platform is for hosts to find chefs for dinners, lunches, parties … whatever they want, where they need another pair of hands to cook for them.”

As an example, Griffith recalls a recent family gathering, a graduation party, hosted by his mother-in-law, who prepared food for the group.

“She never got to enjoy the party,” he says. “She was in the kitchen the whole time while everyone was celebrating and having laughs. This brings someone into the kitchen to do the work. Now, with COVID-19, if you want to do something special, you can do it in your home rather than go out to a restaurant or get takeout.”

Two to 200, Affordably

Participating chefs range in experience level and benefit from the flexibility of choosing when to work, what size gathering to take on, and how much to charge. Homebite adds a small fee to cover operating and marketing costs, but the chef ultimately decides the price for the service.

“The prices are varied, but on average, for a three-course meal, it runs about $31 per person for the chef, and $35 total (per person) with the fees,” Griffith explains. “We have about 12 default menu types that are popular, including American, Italian, seafood, barbecue, and Chinese. We’re in Reno, so a lot of Basque comes up. We also have African, and food from Afghanistan and Germany. It’s all over the place. People can get whatever they’re craving.”

With the recent launch of Homebite’s new website, people interested in hiring private chefs or becoming culinary partners can quickly connect via Homebite.com. A searchable service map allows users to determine nationwide options and schedule a delightful epicurean experience.

Heidi Bethel appreciates the convenience of selecting a menu and having it prepared by a professional in her home … it’s a great option for date night delivered or a fun family experience.
