Cellar 8 & Press Cafรฉ

Downtown Carson City welcomed a pair of new businesses. The formerย Mayer Family Wines was rebranded toย Cellar 8 and will share space with Press Cafรฉ. The coffee shop, which opened on April 24, 2025, operates 7 a.m. โ€“ 2 p.m., with the wine bar taking over later in the day.

Reno Bar & Grill

On April 3, mobile favorite Big Blue Q owner Shane Mathias opened Reno Bar & Grill, a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Fourth Street in Reno. The restaurant menu is made up of tested favorites from his food truck and catering services, and, so far, itโ€™s a hit.

Harveyโ€™s Lake Tahoe

Caesars Entertainment made a big announcement in April about a $160 million renovation plan to change Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino into Caesars Republic. The resort will remain open during the renovation, which is scheduled for completion on July 1. Highlights include a more contemporary design, state-of-the-art upgrades, updated accommodations, and elevated dining and gaming options.

Alibi Ale Works

Alibi Ale Worksโ€™ brewery and barrelhouse at 204 E. Enterprise St. in Incline Village is closing. However, its two other locations โ€” one in Incline Village and the other in Truckee โ€” will remain open.

New ads are posted on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

Flour Bakery in Sparks opened a second location, this time setting its sights on Reno. The newest location is on South McCarran Boulevard and focuses on cakes served either whole or by the slice.

DTension Bar & Lounge

Josef’s Vienna Bakery & Cafรฉ

Josefโ€™s Vienna Bakery & Cafรฉโ€™s owners did a โ€œcopy-pasteโ€ when they opened a second location on Plumb Lane in Old Southwest Reno. The menu is the same as that of the Moana Lane location, however, the new location will feature a separate gluten-free bakery totally dedicated to gluten-free products.

In March 2025,ย Coffee and Comicsย opened in another location in Reno, this time inside of the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel and Spa. The coffeehouse is located on the main level near the entrance to The Shore restaurant.ย 

Cafe Lupine

Cafรฉ Lupineย opened its Truckee coffeeshop in March 2025. The owners, Dawn Neustel and Peter Knolla, met while working together at Glenshire Pizza. It took 10 months for them to find their location on Brockway Road.ย 

Pure Country Canteen

Pure Country Canteen has moved. Once a pillar of line dancing and country music in Sparks, as of March 21, 2025, the country bar and dance hall has moved to South Virginia Street in Reno offering an 8,100-square-foot venue open seven days per week. Rest assured, the famous mechanical bull made the move as well!

Jesus โ€œChuyโ€ Gutierrez

The community is mourning the loss of Jesus โ€œChuyโ€ Gutierrez, the owner of three Mari Chuyโ€™s restaurants in the Reno area (in Midtown, the Village at Rancharrah, and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. His Sparks location was closed in early 2025). The prominent community figure suffered severe lung complications related to several bouts of COVID-19. He died on March 18, 2025.
