Cellar 8 & Press Café
Downtown Carson City welcomed a pair of new businesses. The former Mayer Family Wines was rebranded to Cellar 8 and will share space with Press Café. The coffee shop, which opened on April 24, 2025, operates 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., with the wine bar taking over later in the day.
Reno Bar & Grill
On April 3, mobile favorite Big Blue Q owner Shane Mathias opened Reno Bar & Grill, a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Fourth Street in Reno. The restaurant menu is made up of tested favorites from his food truck and catering services, and, so far, it’s a hit.
Harvey’s Lake Tahoe
Caesars Entertainment made a big announcement in April about a $160 million renovation plan to change Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino into Caesars Republic. The resort will remain open during the renovation, which is scheduled for completion on July 1. Highlights include a more contemporary design, state-of-the-art upgrades, updated accommodations, and elevated dining and gaming options.
The Reindeer Lodge
The Reindeer Lodge on Mt. Rose Highway is back up for sale after a previous deal fell through.
Alibi Ale Works
Alibi Ale Works’ brewery and barrelhouse at 204 E. Enterprise St. in Incline Village is closing. However, its two other locations — one in Incline Village and the other in Truckee — will remain open.
The Edge Restaurant & Lounge
Edgewood Restaurant got an overhaul and will be reopening as The Edge Restaurant & Lounge in Summer 2025. The focus will be on a five-star experience, including tableside presentations, multicourse tasting menus, and an expansive 1,000-label wine collection.
Genoa Brewery
The former Genoa Brewery sold and will be converted into an executive retreat facility.
Nevada Dairy Farmers
Nevada Dairy Farmers got creative with their newest marketing campaign, “Dairy Paradise: All Stars.” The reality TV-inspired campaign aims to promote the benefits of dairy using beloved characters Pebbles, Coney, Betty, Buzz, Mr. Crumb, Phil, and Yogi. New ads are posted on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
Cypress Restaurant & Venue
The Cypress music venue has transformed into Cypress Restaurant & Venue after adding a full kitchen and a dinner menu.
Frey Ranch Farmers + Distillers
Frey Ranch Farmers + Distillers has partnered with the Estate Whiskey Alliance. As owners of one of the only true estate distilleries in the nation, Colby and Ashley Frey’s goal is to highlight the advantages of local sourcing and sustainable production within the spirits industry.
Bella Italia Restaurant
Chef Giuseppe Zappala handed over the keys to his beloved Bella Italia Restaurant in South Reno. He sold the business — including his recipes — to a chef formerly connected to Downtown Reno’s La Famiglia restaurant.
Nozzleman Pizza
Nozzleman Pizza sparked closure rumors, but lucky for fans of the firefighter-themed pizza place in Sparks, the business is simply relocating. The new spot will be in Carson City.
Crak N’ Grill
The signs for Crak N’ Grill went up more than a year ago in the previous Juicy’s spot on Wells Avenue in Reno. But despite the signage, the dream never came to fruition. Now it looks like it never will; The location is listed for sale.
Flour Bakery
Flour Bakery in Sparks opened a second location, this time setting its sights on Reno. The newest location is on South McCarran Boulevard and focuses on cakes served either whole or by the slice.
DTension Bar & Lounge
DTension Bar & Lounge opened in the Truckee Lane Building on First Street in Reno where The Office once slang drinks. The downtown bar offers occasional live music, board games, and a cozy space serving cocktails and more.
Josef’s Vienna Bakery & Café
Josef’s Vienna Bakery & Café’s owners did a “copy-paste” when they opened a second location on Plumb Lane in Old Southwest Reno. The menu is the same as that of the Moana Lane location, however, the new location will feature a separate gluten-free bakery totally dedicated to gluten-free products.
Coffee and Comics
In March 2025, Coffee and Comics opened in another location in Reno, this time inside of the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel and Spa. The coffeehouse is located on the main level near the entrance to The Shore restaurant.
Cafe Lupine
Café Lupine opened its Truckee coffeeshop in March 2025. The owners, Dawn Neustel and Peter Knolla, met while working together at Glenshire Pizza. It took 10 months for them to find their location on Brockway Road.
Pure Country Canteen
Pure Country Canteen has moved. Once a pillar of line dancing and country music in Sparks, as of March 21, 2025, the country bar and dance hall has moved to South Virginia Street in Reno offering an 8,100-square-foot venue open seven days per week. Rest assured, the famous mechanical bull made the move as well!
Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez
The community is mourning the loss of Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez, the owner of three Mari Chuy’s restaurants in the Reno area (in Midtown, the Village at Rancharrah, and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. His Sparks location was closed in early 2025). The prominent community figure suffered severe lung complications related to several bouts of COVID-19. He died on March 18, 2025.
Finbomb Sushi Burrito and Poke Bar
Finbomb Sushi Burrito and Poke Bar reopened in March with a location near the University of Nevada, Reno. The menu focuses on customizable poke bowls, ramen, and sushi burritos.
House of Ra
House of Ra is a yoga studio that also serves coffee and tea. The studio, located on Wells Avenue in Reno, celebrated its grand opening on March 8, 2025.
Ruby’s Shake Shop
Ruby’s Shake Shop started in Las Vegas but opened its first Northern Nevada location, at 1703 N. Virginia St., on March 6, 2025. The hamburger joint is a ’40s-style diner serving American comfort food, salads, and milkshakes.
Gambi’s Restaurant
That didn’t take long: Gambi’s Restaurant reopened in Sparks at 55 Nugget Ave. after leaving its Somersett address behind.
Evo Hotel Tahoe City
Evo Hotel Tahoe City — curated by professional snowboarder, climate activist, and Tahoe local Jeremy Jones — opened on March 1, 2025. This dog-friendly hotel featuring Tahoe-themed rooms, sauna and cold plunge, gear rentals and demos, includes Sierra Surf Club Bar & Restaurant for coffee and grab-and-go menu items daily.
