After seven years in operation, The Flavor Studio in Reno is closing. The business offered a variety of food-, wine-, and spirits-tasting events to the public. Aracelli Barrera, who worked as the chef at the business, took over as owner two years ago after the passing of its founder, Laurel Pine. Barrera is closing primarily due to location challenges and new building ownership. However, she says she will continue to offer private catering, pop-up events, and website sales of caviar, wagyu, and foie gras at Enjoyfoiegras.com. 

Alibi Ale Works

Alibi Ale Works’ brewery and barrelhouse at 204 E. Enterprise St. in Incline Village is closing. However, its two other locations — one in Incline Village and the other in Truckee — will remain open.

Grafted Whiskey & Wine

Grafted Whiskey & Wine served its last drink on Feb. 21, 2025, with the owners announcing its closure via Facebook. The husband-and-wife co-owners, Jade and Chad Bogan, referenced a desire to focus on their nonprofit, Grafted Kitchen, serving at-risk youth, in honor of their late son.

Lone Eagle Grille

Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino’s leaders closed Lone Eagle Grille on Feb. 27, 2025, after 30 years in business. Rumor has it that a new location of the internationally renowned NOBU is headed to the shores of Lake Tahoe in its place.

Wing King

Wing King made it one year in the Reno business landscape. The restaurant that opened in Feb. 2024 — and won several awards along the way — announced its last hurrah would be Valentine’s Day 2025.

Brewery IMBIB’s owners announced in January 2025 that it would be closing its doors in Reno and Sparks for good after 10 years in business. The brand has been brewing here since 2012.

Playfield ’76

Café Capello

After a roof fire on Jan. 15, 2025, Napa-Sonoma Grocery Co. closed permanently. This was the only remaining location of the Reno staple.

Cookie Plug

Cookie Plug’s closure was announced on Jan. 24, 2025, after a little more than a year in business. In the Facebook post announcing the closure, the family behind the South Reno business said they sold the franchise rights to another owner, who planned to open a location in Elko.

Nekter

Nekter at The Village at Rancharrah closed its doors Jan. 24, 2025, after three years in business. The Sparks location remains open.

LCF Plant Nursery

Nathan Rosenbloom announced the closure of LCF Plant Nursery in December 2024, then shut down both the in-person business and the website. He plans to focus on his newer venture, Mountain Mushrooms, as well as his family.

Blind Dog Tavern

Blind Dog Tavern ended 2024 by closing its doors for good after hosting guests on Dec. 31 and seven years in business. The owner, Josh Callen, owns multiple bars throughout Reno.

The Fe

The Basque restaurant-meets-sports bar concept, The Fe, barely made it past one year in business. It opened in October 2023, then served its last meal in December 2024.

Fourk Kitchen

In mid-December 2024, Fourk Kitchen bid adieu to Reno. The restaurant was known for serving multicourse, prix fixe menus that rotated once per month, but after fewer than four years in business, the owner decided to pull the plug when his attempts to sell were unsuccessful.

Genoa Country Store

The long-running Genoa Country Store closed its doors on Dec. 22, 2024. The owners announced lease negotiations as the driving force for the closure. The beloved shop originally opened in 1999.

Pola Poke Bowls

BAM! Dog

BAM! Dog in Smithridge Center closed on Nov. 8, 2024. The hot dog business still operates out of a food truck for local events but has ceased operations of its brick and mortar, which opened eight years ago.

Vistro

Vistro made headlines last year when it relocated its takeout operation from the basement of Greater Nevada Field to its own bright orange building near the Reno Arch. However, it seems the virtual kitchen model was the best fit for the business. The owners have downsized and returned to their original model, serving a variety of menus as delivery and takeout only. Orders are only taken online. So what will take over the previous spot, now that there’s a bright orange hole in the restaurant landscape of downtown? Rumor has it that Kings Sushi will be the new kid on the block.

Caliente

It was announced in October 2024 that Caliente, owned by Tom Turner, closed after 17 years in business. The Kings Beach restaurant was part of the Tahoe Restaurant Collection and had the same owner as Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay, Riva Grill in the Ski Run Marina, Bar of America in Downtown Truckee, and Sparks Water Bar in Sparks.

The Phoenix at The Outlets at Legends
